That's the right amount of time we should 'poo' in a day!

I went through questions, comments, post, answers and disagreements online and offline on topic related to exactly how many times should we 'poo' in a day, that would be considered 'for the best of our health'?

While some may have identify that they suffer constipation or bowel movement infrequent or hard to poo, many young adults especially, are not aware that they suffer the same. When I asked my sister, she only poo once or twice in a week. And my brother doesn't seems to know he is suffering constipation at all. This is rather concerning!
According to Health Magazine, a research by Amanda Gardner reveals 13 Surprising Causes of Constipation!

1. Hypothyroidism - or an underactive thyroid gland, slows the body’s metabolic processes, even the gut.
2. Painkillers - specifically narcotics, can cause constipation.

3. Chocolate - In one 2005 study, people with chronic constipation or irritable bowel syndrome were more likely than people without those problems to say that chocolate caused constipation (as did bananas and black tea).
4. Vitamins - in general it won’t cause constipation, but certain components, such as calcium and iron, can be a problem.
5. Laxative overuse - Some laxatives work by stimulating bowel activity. Such stimulant laxatives should be taken only as directed.

6. Too Much Dairy - A diet high in cheese and other low-fiber/high-fat foods such as eggs and meat can slow down your digestion. The obvious solution? Cut down on your intake of such foods, and increase fiber intake to 20 to 35 grams a day.

7. Antidepressants - Constipation can be associated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants such as Prozac
8. Depression - Ironically, the very condition that antidepressants are meant to treat—depression—can also cause constipation.
9. Antacids - they are great for fighting heartburn, but some can cause constipation, particularly those containing calcium or aluminum.
10. Blood pressure and allergy meds - Constipation can be a side effect of some common drugs used to treat high blood pressure, such as calcium channel blockers and diuretics.
11. Inflammatory bowel disease - IBD includes two chronic conditions—Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Both can cause cramping, weight loss, bloody stools, and other health problems.
12. Childbirth - constipation is common during pregnancy, but childbirth itself can be a problem, possibly due to sluggish abdominal muscles or perhaps the use of pain relievers or an anesthetic during the delivery.
13. Diabetes and neurological conditions - diabetes can cause nerve damage that can affect a person’s ability to digest food.

& WOW.....that's a lot of causes!

So how many times should we actually poo in a day?

My Sifu says - as many times as you eat your main meal.
If you have breakfast, lunch and dinner, that's 3 times in a day!

QiGong, Acupressure, Tea, Fibrous Foos (Vege & Fruits) can help your tummy woes........................

I am attending Qi Gong classes now! Will share with you what I have learn in the class next!

Beautiful Natural Foot Care Remedy!

Have you ever heard of the expression Hong Kong Feet? This is very common among the Chinese community. I used to wonder why the expression, until I came to know the phrase refers to athlete's foot.

A research from Wikipedia quotes that :
Athlete's foot  is a fungal infection of the skin that causes scaling, flaking, and itch of affected areas, and in severe cases, swelling and amputation of the foot. It is caused by fungi in the genus Trichophyton. The disease is typically transmitted in moist communal areas where people walk barefoot, such as showers or bathhouses, and requires a warm moist environment, such as the inside of a shoe, in order to incubate.

Athlete's foot can happen to any men or women at large. Until today there isn't much solution to this except that you can find lots of skin lotion or cream targeting for the feet.

My new QiGong Sifu actually shared a wonderfully natural tips known to ve very effective in healing "Hong Kong Feet". His remedy as per below :

Use Orange Skin.

Place at least 3 pieces of orange skin into a basin. Soak in hot water. When the water turns semi-hot / hot warm, soak your feet into the basin for 15 minutes or until water turns cold. Do this once a day for a maximum of 3 days only.

Note 1 : Do not do repeat this more than 3 times / 3 days because we do not want other problems pertaining to feet soaking in water to arise.

Note 2 : Do not use plastic basin. When hot water is poured into a plastic basin, the hot liquid causes a potentially harmful chemical to leach out of certain plastics much faster than usual, including BPA as found by researchers. Preferably use aluminium or metal basin.

For those who do not suffer the above symptom may also practice the above if your feet is a little dry. If you have tried the remedy above, do share your experience with me. I will be trying it too!

Why my health is my NO. 1 PRIORITY today!

As a fit and healthy young person, researching about the importance of health is very likely to be the last thing on my mind. I have lots of energy to socialise, to work, to study, to exercise (which I never did) and I rarely get sick. Even if I do get sick, I recover pretty fast and sometimes may not seek any medical or health assistance to recover from life’s little ailments.

And the best thing, I found out that all of this is a completely normal attitude for most people in their 20’s to early 40’s. Health wise, these years are often the prime of our life, so why pay to learn, or sacrifice our lifestyle for something which is not our No. 1 Priority? I could easily be using that money to save for a holiday, or to spend on weekend shopping spree.

Despite the fact that our youthful years bestow us with good health and a very strong resilience to illness, it is very important for me to start thinking about my own health now. But why now?

When I first discover that my mentor at the age of 49 was diagnosed with lung cancer this July'13 (pretty huge - 8cm by 8cm in size), it prompted me that HEALTH is so important and yet many young adults out there like me, never really put the into importance to why we need to be healthy.

Consider this for a moment; one in every five young Malaysian's adult between the ages of 20 and 40 are hospitalised every year for all sorts of new-age chronic sickness. Think of your friends from work, uni, the gym, etc. It is very likely that you may know a someone who are stricken with a chronic illness.

When you are stricken down with a chronic illness, life changes instantly. My mentor is spending thousands into chemotherapy treatment, supplements, medicine, consultations, etc etc...Not only that, everyone from his family members, relatives, business partners are all affected one way or another. Despite the pain from all the treatments he is still going through these days, he is a strong-willed person as he never let his illness get the worst out of him. He remain as healthy as possible, attending to work and continues to travel distances for business. During his 2nd chemo treatment, his xray results shows a significant recovery.

His determination and positive recovery instantly prompted me to share to all cancer patients his journey of healing.

We are what we eat! This is the most repeated words I heard about health when I recently started my journey as a newbie to experience health in a new perspective. For whatever sickness we may experience, it is a result of our food intake. And voila...all these years I have been taking so much of the delicious FORBIDDEN FOOD!!!

I am writing this blog to share my journey in discovering health and sharing the betterness to health concious newbies!
